Got up early this morning to get our day started because we’re headed to Xochimilco. We met up with Chris and Drea and hopped in the van towards our destination. Once we arrive we walked around a little bit and checked out some of the shops before getting on the gondola.
Xochimilco, a district in southern Mexico City, has a history dating back to pre-Columbian times. Its Nahuatl name, “the place of the flower field,” reflects its significance. It was once a vital part of the Aztec chinampa agricultural system and served as a crucial source of food for Tenochtitlan. Despite changes over the centuries, Xochimilco’s canals and floating gardens remain an iconic part of its culture, earning it a UNESCO World Heritage Site designation.
Anybody visiting Mexico City This would be a highly recommended spot to check out so much life, food, music, and atmosphere surrounding you. We definitely enjoyed our time riding around on the river. Hope to do this again someday. We also hit up a local market and grab some delicious tacos and Agua Fresca’s, snapping a couple photos along the way and heading back to the hotel to edit and relax, ended up looking out the window and catching a wedding happening at the hotel. Enjoy the photos.
